The Searchers

The Searchers were a Liverpool beat band whose jangling, harmony-rich guitar sound gave Merseybeat one of its most enduring textures. After cutting their teeth in Hamburg, they reached number one in Britain with their 1963 debut and scored further hits with covers of American songs. Their bright twelve-string-style guitar work is often cited as a forerunner of folk rock.

  • influenced by The Beatles

The Beatles' national breakthrough cleared a path for fellow Liverpool beat groups, and The Searchers reached number one in their wake with the bright, harmony-rich sound of the same scene. Their success confirmed Merseybeat as a movement larger than any single band.
