Release of 'La balsa'

The July 1967 release of Los Gatos' single 'La balsa' is the event most often named as the birth of rock nacional. Its unexpected commercial success demonstrated a national appetite for rock sung in Spanish. From this single point the entire movement is conventionally dated.
