Wild Cat Blues

'Wild Cat Blues' is among the 1923 recordings on which Sidney Bechet showed what a single soprano-saxophone voice could do within a New Orleans band. His driving, vibrato-laden lead pushed past the older ideal of evenly blended ensemble playing toward the figure of the star improviser. The side helped establish Bechet as one of the first true soloists in recorded jazz.
