Recording of "Great Balls of Fire" (1957)

In 1957 Jerry Lee Lewis recorded 'Great Balls of Fire' at Sun, hammering out a performance built almost entirely around his piano. The single sold in vast numbers and made Lewis the studio's biggest new star at the height of its rockabilly run. The session shows how thoroughly the Memphis sound had grown from its 1951 R&B roots into a national pop force. It stands near the end of Sun's golden stretch.
