Bill Black

Bill Black played the slapped upright bass that anchored Elvis Presley's first Sun recordings, a percussive thump central to the rockabilly feel. Alongside guitarist Scotty Moore he completed the lean trio behind 'That's All Right' in 1954. His driving bottom end helped define how the new music moved on the dance floor. He later led his own popular instrumental combo before his early death.
