Toots & the Maytals
Fronted by the gospel-fired voice of Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the Maytals carried Jamaican music from ska through rocksteady into reggae. Their 1968 recording "Do the Reggay" is often cited as the first to put the genre's eventual name in a song title. The cited sources record them as a Jamaican reggae, ska, and rocksteady band.
