Formation of the Skatalites

In May 1964 a group of Kingston's finest session musicians coalesced into the Skatalites, giving ska its definitive instrumental band. Over the following months they backed the era's leading singers and recorded the instrumentals that would become canonical. The cited sources date the group's beginning to that month.
