Taeko Onuki

A founding member of Sugar Babe alongside Tatsuro Yamashita, Onuki pursued a more art-pop and European-tinged solo path, working with arrangers like Ryuichi Sakamoto. Her 1977 album "Sunshower" fused jazz harmony, chamber textures, and a cool sophistication that set her apart from the genre's brighter pop. She became one of the most musically adventurous voices of the Tokyo scene.
