Marshall Jefferson

Marshall Jefferson, born in Chicago in 1959, brought a gospel-house grandeur to the genre and is nicknamed a father of house music. A producer working through Trax Records, he layered piano and uplifting vocals over the machine pulse, widening the sound's emotional range. His anthem "Move Your Body" became one of the form's signature statements.
